Impact/Purpose:

The Atmospheric Model Evaluation Tool (AMET) is a software package designed to aid in the evaluation and analysis of air quality and meteorological model data. AMET works by combining model predictions with observed data, and provides analysis tools to analyze and interpret these data. This work specifically documents the updates in the latest version of the AMET software (v1.4) to be released in the summer/fall of 2018.

Description:

A new version of the Atmospheric Model Evaluation Tool (AMET) will be released in the summer of 2018. The new version of AMET, version 1.4 (AMETv1.4), contains a number of updates from the previous of version of AMET (v1.3) released in 2017. On the air quality side of AMET, an option has been added to read the paired model-observation files directly, bypassing the MySQL database. While this will limit some of the querying capabilities of AMET, it will simplify the installation of the software. In addition, several new analysis scripts have been developed that leverage third-party software to create interactive plots. One example is a new spatial plot that uses street-level mapping to allow zooming to better assess the location of observation sites. Similarly, a new interactive time-series plot has been added. On the meteorology side of AMET, additional analysis scripts have been added to perform upper-air analyses, along with several other scripts. In addition to the updates described above, several bug fixes and minor updates are also included in the newest version of AMET. This presentation will summarize the major updates in AMETv1.4. Also discussed will be updates to several of the other model evaluation tools that the Computational Exposure Division of EPA develops and releases to the public.
