Citation:

Kentula, M., Tony Olsen, T. Magee, A. Nahlik, A. Herlihy, K. Blocksom, AND G. Lomnicky. Overview of the Procedures for Survey Design and Data Analysis for the National Wetland Condition Assessment. PNWCA Webinar, Corvallis, OR, February 28 - May 23, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

The Overview of the Procedures for Survey Design and Data Analysis for the National Wetland Condition Assessment webinar was designed to demonstrate how to use the tools developed by the National Aquatic Resource Survey’s team at NHEERL’s Western Ecology Division to perform the analyses of data collected for the National Wetland Condition Assessment (NWCA). The webinar was open to state and tribal wetland managers throughout the Nation who participate in the National Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Work Group sponsored by the Office of Water. The webinar will likely generate interest among the state and tribal wetland managers to participate in future NWCAs and to apply for grants sponsored by Office of Water to support additional wetland monitoring and assessment implemented as part of the NWCA that support specific state and tribal objectives.

Description:

The Overview of the Procedures for Survey Design and Data Analysis for the National Wetland Condition Assessment webinar was designed to demonstrate how to use the tools developed by the National Aquatic Resource Survey’s team at NHEERL’s Western Ecology Division to perform the analyses of data collected for the National Wetland Condition Assessment (NWCA). The webinars are open to states and tribes throughout the Nation participating in the National Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Work Group sponsored by the Office of Water. Components of the webinar were: (1) survey design, (2) a quantitative definition of reference, (3) development and application of a Vegetation Multimetric Index (VMMI) for assessing wetland condition and (4) the development of indices of stressors likely to affect wetland condition, followed by information on how the indices are used in reporting on stressor extent, and relative and attributable risk.
