Impact/Purpose:

This is a presentation that will be delivered as an hour long webinar to an audience comprised of federal personnel, state primacy personnel, practicing engineers and drinking water utility personnel. The goal of the presentation is to transfer information and research results generated in the Office of Research and Development and the Office of Water. The presentation will focus on drinking water treatment options for waters impacted by harmful algal blooms (HABs).

Description:

The presentation contains results of bench-scale trials conducted in EPA laboratories, as well as the results of field visits by EPA personnel to drinking water treatment facilities. The presentation will focus on drinking water treatment options for waters impacted by harmful algal blooms (HABs). The presentation will discuss the removal of cyanobacterial cells and toxins through the following drinking water treatment unit operations: coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, potassium permanganate application, chlorine application, chlorine dioxide application, ozone application, ultraviolet light application, and powdered activated carbon application.
