Expanding the capability to screen and prioritize chemicals for developmental neurotoxicity

Citation:

Mundy, W., S. Padilla, AND Tim Shafer. Expanding the capability to screen and prioritize chemicals for developmental neurotoxicity. CSS BOSC, RTP, NC, November 16 - 18, 2016.

Impact/Purpose:

Overview of high-throughput task to use a battery of alternative, in vitro assays to screen chemicals for developmental neurotoxicity to be presented at the CSS BOSC.

Description:

A battery of medium- to high-throughput assays has been developed to test for chemical effects on key events of neurodevelopment at the level of the cell, tissue, and intact organism. Technical performance of the assays has been demonstrated using positive control chemicals for each assay. The ability of the assay battery to prioritize and rank potential developmental neurotoxicants is being evaluated using a set of reference chemicals with known in vivo activity. This abstract does not necessarily reflect U.S. EPA policy.
