Impact/Purpose:

Communities want to be more sustainable — to be able to maintain economic vibrancy, health, and community environmental protection in an integrated way. To assist communities as they strive to accomplish this goal, EPA is developing an application named DISC (Decisions Integration for Strong Communities) which would provide communities with information to assess their sustainability. DISC would help facilitate smart growth and assist communities in making sound decisions based on relevant local information that is readily accessible, meaningful and impactful. While the DISC application would be relevant to all communities, a specific focus of this project is to ensure that this application will be useful to smaller communities, including tribal communities. This webinar is an overview of the research project, highlighting research as to how it may address tribal community interests. It illustrates the conceptual application being developed, with an example of what the output could look like for a county with a high tribal population. This Webinar will help foster communications between the project team and tribal representatives, and feedback from this Webinar will provide the research team with valuable information as to how this application may better assist tribal communities.
