Whitaker, D., K. Oliver, D. Shelow, D. Shelow, I. MacGregor, L. Phelps, AND K. Cavender. EPA Method TO-15A. 2018 EPA’s Non-Targeted Analysis Collaborative Trial (ENTACT) Workshop, Portland, OR, August 13 - 16, 2018.
Impact/Purpose:
EPA's Office of Research and Development and Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards have been collaborating to update EPA Method TO-15: Determination of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in Air Collected in Specially Prepared Canisters and Analyzed by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). This method is used nationally and internationally by commercial, state, local and federal air monitoring laboratories but has not been updated in 20 years. The current revision reflects state-of-the-art technology in both analytical and supporting instrumentation as well as best practices for ensuring generation of high quality data.
Description:
EPA's Office of Research and Development and Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards have been collaborating to update EPA Method TO-15: Determination of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in Air Collected in Specially Prepared Canisters and Analyzed by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). A comparison of Methods TO-15 and TO-15A will be presented and will include discussion of improvements as they relate to canister cleanliness criteria, method detection limits, sample validity, and mass spectrometer tuning specifications.
