Welcome to the DE-US Meeting

Citation:

Gatchett, A. Welcome to the DE-US Meeting. DE-US Meeting, Washington, DC, July 17 - 19, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

This is an introduction slide presentation to the German US meeting in Washington DC. This sets the stage for the 2 day meeting with some background and history information focusing on what you can expect from the meeting with goals and objectives. The meeting hopes to provide tools and methods to those responsible for decision making and facilitate the sharing of ideas and experiences on how to reduce or manage environmental impacts on communities.

Description:

Building a resilient city is a universal problem whose impact can be seen around the world yet is also a unique problem because it affects everyone differently and can have a greater impact on certain populations. In both the US and Germany government agencies have found that certain vulnerable populations (e.g., tribes, EJ communities, refugee/immigrants) are often disproportionately exposed and are more susceptible to the effects of environmental impacts. Environmental problems that are affecting these vulnerable populations can be reduced through the promotion of sustainability and resiliency of their environment and the application of environmental tools, procedures and assessments.
