Generalized concentration addition mixtures model predicts glucocorticoid receptor activation by environmental full and partial agonist mixtures. Carolinas Society of Environmental oxicology and Chemistry, Research triangle Park, North Carolina, April 25 - 27, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

We recently detected glucocorticoid steroid hormone-like activity in impacted surface waters from sites across the United States using a novel cell-based bioassay. We screened individual and mixtures of environmentally-relevant glucocorticoids to assess how each compound/mixture responds in the bioassay. Additionally, we determined the mathematical chemical mixtures prediction model called the generalized concentration addition model is best suited to predict reponses of glucocorticoids due to the unique responses of the compounds in our bioassay. This information will be useful to stakeholders and workgroups currently working within the agency to determine how to best apply these types of bioassay toxicity screening tools to water quality monitoring programs.

Description:

This abstract will be submitted for the consideration of either a poster or platform presentation at the 2018 Annual Carolinas Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry held in Research Triangle Park, NC April 25-27th.
