Impact/Purpose:
Invited presentation at Annual Meeting of Association for Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP)
Description:
• The Common Rule regulations that govern human subjects research were revised in January 2017, and are currently scheduled to take effect in July 2018. Among the many changes that affect researchers and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) is a new process for “Limited IRB Review,” which will be required for certain categories of exempt research that involve surveys, interviews or biospecimens. This invited conference presentation will describe the purpose and rationale for this new regulatory process, its procedural requirements, and potential pitfalls. The audience will include research administrators, IRB staff, institutional officials, and government regulators.
