Impact/Purpose:
This workshop will discuss lifecycle analysis of green infrastructure and gray infrastructure as an integrated approach to stormwater management. Participants will learn from and contribute to an EPA funded project directed by Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (WE&RF), entitled “Community-enabled Lifecycle Analysis of Stormwater Infrastructure Costs (CLASIC)”. Results of a national community interview of the drivers and key factors for green infrastructure implementation by utilities and municipalities will be discussed. The lifecycle components of existing tools such as the International Stormwater BMP Database, the EPA Stormwater Calculator and the eRAMS cloud-based modeling platform will be presented. Participants will then have opportunities to provide feedback on potential case studies on the new CLASIC tool for lifecycle cost analysis and determine the preferred outputs to enhance usability for MS4s, CSOs, utilities and other organizations evaluating their mix of gray and green infrastructure for better decision-making.

This presentation will cover the new cost estimation module of the US EPA National Stormwater Calculator and future enhancements, including a new mobile web app version of the tool. The presentation mainly focuses on how the calculator may be used to provide planning level capital and annual maintenance costs of small urban stormwater management projects across the USA.
