Impact/Purpose:
To introduce the state versions of the USEEIO model to potential state government users.
Description:
State governments are showing an increasing interest in the concept and application of sustainable materials management (SMM). SMM implies that a life cycle perspective be taken on materials management and environmental and social impacts of materials be taken into account in evaluation and decision making. EPA has developed a model that can be used with the SMM Tool Suite to identify opportunities to reduce environmental and social impacts of goods and services that is customized to a state perspective. The model is a state-specific version of the USEEIO, an environmentally-extended input-output model that can be used to assess life cycle impacts of goods and services produced or consumed in the US.
