Presented at the 2018 Water Research Foundation Conference.

Description:

This study reviewed U.S. commercial buildings to design a decentralized rooftop rainwater harvesting (RWH) system and air-conditioning (AC) condensate harvesting (ACH) system for non-potable use. RWH systems were designed for one-to multi-story buildings selected from each of the four Natural Resources Conservation Service’s rainfall distribution regions (I, IA, II, and III). Appropriate life cycle cost inventory and life cycle inventory of infrastructure and energy were compiled from the U.S. EPA’s life cycle inventory database in collaboration with AC and RWH equipment producers. The designs and life cycle inventory database were used to conduct life cycle assessment and life cycle cost assessment of the systems, providing relevant data for decision making on developing and implementing onsite non-potable water systems.
