Impact/Purpose:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) have jointly funded the Children's Environmental Health and Disease Prevention Research Centers (Children's Centers) since 1998. The Children's Centers continue to be successful in protecting children’s health. A total of 46 grants have been awarded to 24 centers through a highly competitive process. EPA and NIEHS have together invested more than $300 million in the Children's Centers program to expand our knowledge on the exposures and health outcomes. The partnership has led to tangible results in communities across the country. Every year, the actively funded Children's Centers meet to provide research updates and engage in discussion with other center researchers, Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSUs), EPA, and NIEHS staff.
Description:
The 2017 Annual Meeting of the NIEHS/EPA Children’s Environmental Health and Disease Prevention Research Centers was hosted by EPA in collaboration with NIEHS and the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSUs). The meeting was held at the EPA Region 9 offices in San Francisco, CA. The meeting agenda was designed to foster collaboration and provide the opportunity for participants to form new partnerships. The 2017 Annual Meeting Proceedings summarize remarks given by EPA and NIEHS leadership, research updates presented by Children's Centers researchers and PEHSUs, and a keynote address. The proceedings also include a list of meeting participants and slides and posters presented at the meeting.
