A measured approach to sustainability and other multi-criteria assessment

Citation:

Pollesch, N. A measured approach to sustainability and other multi-criteria assessment. Twin Ports Freshwater Folk Monthly, Duluth, MN, March 07, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

From determining what to have for lunch to deciding where to invest our resources, we, as individuals and societies, are constantly involved in multi-criteria assessment. Using sustainability assessment as a case study, in this talk I will demonstrate the ubiquity of multi-criteria assessment in human and ecological systems. I discuss the processes used to combine diverse indicators to create indices or synthesized measures of complex systems. I will also highlight some of the common challenges that arise in assessment and discuss some methods to study the structure of assessments, which can aid in creating more robust assessments.
