11/21/2017 Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) will host a webinar and teleconference for LEO Network Participants (LEO is a network of local observers and topic experts who share knowledge about unusual animal, environment and weather events). With LEO you can connect with others in your community, share observations, and raise awareness. You can also engage with topic experts and become part of broader observer community. Exposure to particles and gasses found in wildfire smoke are linked to a range of adverse health outcomes, negatively influencing wellbeing and productivity in the affected communities. The adverse health outcomes range from low severity, including increased incidence of respiratory symptoms, wheezing, coughing. Take Away Message: The message for LEO Network members is the Community Health-Vulnerability Index and Smoke Sense research initiative can help individuals and community leaders learn more about the relationship between their air environment and their health, and proactive actions that can reduce community members' exposures to poor air quality that may be attributed to wildland fire.
