Impact/Purpose:

This technical note is part of the introductory material for a special issue of the journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP) which is being organized as a publication outlet for cooperative analysis conducted under the Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (TF HTAP) and the related projects AQMEII and MICS-Asia. The USEPA co-chairs the TF HTAP (Terry Keating, ORD/NCER) as well as the Air Quality Model Evaluation International Initiative (AQMEII, Christian Hogrefe, ORD/NERL). TF HTAP and AQMEII are important components of EPA's efforts to understand the relative contribution of emissions sources inside and outside the United States to air pollution problems within the United States. This note will first be submitted to Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Discussions (ACPD) and open to public review before appearing in ACP.

Description:

The ACP Special Issue is being organized to draw together analysis of a set of cooperative modeling experiments (referred to as HTAP2). The purpose of this technical note is to provide a common description of the experimental design and set up for HTAP2 that can be referred to by other articles in the special issue. It does not include discussion of any results or implications of the analysis.
