Hogrefe, C., S. Galmarini, F. Dentener, AND T. Keating. AQMEII Phase 3 in the context of HTAP2: Scope, Objectives and Findings. 16th Annual CMAS Conference, Chapell Hill, North Carolina, October 23 - 25, 2017.

Impact/Purpose:

These slides will be used as introduction to a panel discussion on “model intercomparisons” at the 16th CMAS conference. They are intended to provide an overview of the third phase of the Air Quality Model Evaluation International Initiative (AQMEII), especially its coordination of the modeling activities under the task force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (HTAP). AQMEII is a collaboration between North American and European regional air quality modelers and is being co-chaired by EPA and the European Commission Joint Research Centre. The goal of the discussion panel is to provide CMAS conference participants with an overview of the experiences gained through AQMEII Phase 3 (and other model intercomparison activities covered by other panelists) and to engage the community by soliciting feedback on the goals and objectives for future work under AQMEII.

Description:

This presentation provides an overview of the third phase of the Air Quality Model Evaluation International Initiative (AQMEII) and its coordination with the work under the task force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (HTAP). It also provides a number of examples of analyses conducted through AQMEII Phase 3 with a particular focus on connections between large-scale and regional air quality modeling systems.
