Impact/Purpose:
This document is for the determination of the chemical warfare agent O-ethyl-S-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl)methyl-phosphonothiolate (VX). The procedures have been multi-laboratory tested for preparation and analysis of VX in soil, wipe, and water samples. This analytical protocol involves microscale extraction, followed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis to identify and measure VX. Soil and wipe extracts also might require a concentration step using nitrogen evaporation to achieve appropriate levels of quantitation.
