Impact/Purpose:

These are slides to be presented by R8 first author at the EPA Emissions Inventory conference. As described below, the slides summarize recent work under a RARE project that looked at both remote measurements and inventory factors for upstream oil and gas well pads.

Description:

This presentation describes an EPA effort to improve the understanding of well pad emissions and remote measurement methods, and identify areas where future work is needed. Funded through an R8 RARE, R8, ORD, and OAQPS conducted a two-phase project to explore a novel measurement approach for a potentially important oil and gas source, and gather source emission information to advance the EPA SPECIATE database. The SPECIATE database is a key tool used by air quality modelers to predict areas of ozone non-attainment. The emphasis of this RARE project was on product-related VOC emissions from on-going well pad operations. Fully described in recently published EPA report: "Advancing Understanding of Emissions from Oil and Natural Gas Production Operations to Support EPA’s Air Quality Modeling of Ozone Non-Attainment Areas". [EPA #: EPA/600/R-17/224].
