Representing Carbon Capture and Storage in MARKAL EPAUS9r16a

Citation:

Babaee, S. AND Dan Loughlin. Representing Carbon Capture and Storage in MARKAL EPAUS9r16a. Presented at Energy-Economic Modeling Review Workshop, Washington, DC, April 03 - 04, 2017.

Impact/Purpose:

Presentation at the Energy-Economic Modeling Review Workshop, Washington, D.C., April 3rd and 4th, 2017. The topic of this particular workshop is a comparison of how carbon capture and storage are represented in a suite of energy-economic models. I will be describing our representation within the EPAUS9r database used with the MARKAL model. The audience predominantly consists of energy modelers and analysts.

Description:

Energy system models are used to evaluate the energy and environmental implications of alternative pathways for producing and using energy. Many such models include representations of the costs and capacities of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). In this presentation, Dan Loughlin will present an updated representation of CCS that has recently been added to the ORD MARKAL energy modeling framework. Dan will show preliminary modeling results that demonstrate how the revised representation affects technology choices.
