Citation:

U.S. EPA. Sample Collection Procedures for Radiochemical Analytes in Outdoor Building and Infrastructure Materials. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/R-16/128, 2016.

Impact/Purpose:

There is a need for sampling and sample strategy tools to facilitate sampling and analysis of urban matrices in response to an intentional/unintentional contamination incident. The procedures in this document provide instructions regarding the collection of samples from outdoor building and infrastructure materials to be analyzed for radiological contaminants using the methods provided in the Selected Analytical Methods for Environmental Remediation and Recovery (SAM). The information focuses on Site Characterization, Remediation, and Final Status Survey (site release) in support of EPA’s post incident responsibilities outlined in the National Response Plan. Use of the procedure by EPA or EPA contracted sample collectors will ensure that quality samples are collected to support laboratory analysis.
