HABs Monitoring and Prediction

Citation:

Schaeffer, B. AND Joel Allen. HABs Monitoring and Prediction. Upper Mississippi River Basin Association Water Quality Task Force Meeting, Moline, IL, September 20 - 21, 2016.

Impact/Purpose:

The audience is the Upper Mississippi River Basin Association which is analogous to ORSANCO. This will be an item in their Water Quality Task Force Meeting. The purpose is to inform attendees of current ORD HABs monitoring and prediction research.

Description:

Monitoring techniques for harmful algal blooms (HABs) vary across temporal and spatial domains. Remote satellite imagery provides information on water quality at relatively broad spatial and lengthy temporal scales. At the other end of the spectrum, local in-situ monitoring techniques can provide site-specific data. Each has an appropriate role in the monitoring and prediction of HABs.
