CatReg Software for Categorical Regression Analysis (May 2016)

Citation:

CatReg Software for Categorical Regression Analysis (May 2016). U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development, National Center For Environmental Assessment, Research Triangle Park Office, Research Triangle Park, NC, 2000.

Impact/Purpose:

The software was developed to support toxicity assessment for acute inhalation exposures, but the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) encourages the broad application of this software.

Description:

CatReg 3.0 is a Microsoft Windows enhanced version of the Agency’s categorical regression analysis (CatReg) program. CatReg complements EPA’s existing Benchmark Dose Software (BMDS) by greatly enhancing a risk assessor’s ability to determine whether data from separate toxicological or epidemiological studies can be pooled into a single dose-response-time meta-analysis. CatReg can be used to support the analysis of health effect studies and other types of toxicity data used to support toxicity assessments developed by EPA and other interested stakeholders.

Since its introduction by EPA in 2006, CatReg was available only as an application written in and run using the R statistics package. The new CatReg Version 3.0 requires R be installed and relies on the same statistical algorithms, but offers a Windows-based interface that makes specifying variables, filters, stratification, clustering, hypotheses, and applying the algorithms an easier and more efficient experience.
