Impact/Purpose:
Summary of Human Health Effects Associated with Exposure to Toxic Cyanobacteria to an audience at a water microbiology scientific conference.
Description:
Reports of toxic cyanobacteria blooms are increasing worldwide. Warming and eutrophic surface water systems support the development of blooms. We examine the evidence for adverse human health effects associated with exposure to toxic blooms in drinking water, recreational water and via medical procedures. We will discuss the range of effects reported to be associated with exposure and the state of the science of the epidemiology of toxic cyanobacteria. This is a description of a proposed presentation and does not necessarily reflect EPA policy.
