Impact/Purpose:
Congress is on the verge of modernizing the now 40-year old Toxic Substances Control Act. While the provisions of the new legislation are yet to be finalized, there’s no doubt that the new 21st century technologies and approaches for determining toxicity, bioactivity and exposure will be needed to fulfill the requirements for priority setting and safety determinations. While considerable progress has been made in developing the 21st century approaches and demonstrating their potential utility, additional focus will be needed to enable regulatory use in a modernized TSCA. In this colloquium, presenters will outline opportunities for utilizing these methods in a new TSCA and discuss opportunities for enhancing the confidence in use of these methods.
Description:
I am describing current research from the Chemical Safety for Sustainability research program's Rapid Exposure and Dosimetry project that relates to predicting human exposure to environmental chemicals for thousands of chemicals.
