Impact/Purpose:

Poster for National Environmental Monitoring Conference in Chicago, July 13-17, 2015.

Description:

Since 2013 there has been an increased focus on citizen science and the role of community engagement in the research process. In response to the National Academy of Sciences in its 2012 report on Exposure Science in the 21st Century: a Vision and a Strategy, a subgroup of federal agencies has come together to address the recommendations regarding community engagement and citizen science. The subgroup has met via teleconference several times since June 2014 to discuss the scope, vision, and goals of the subgroup, as well as to identify opportunities to advance community engagement in exposure sciences. This poster will highlight the importance of citizen science and community-engaged research in exposure science. It will present case studies of projects being supported and outline areas for future work.
