The U.S. EPA has released the final status report entitled Advances in Inhalation Gas Dosimetry for Derivation of a Reference Concentration (RfC) and Use in Risk Assessment.

Impact/Purpose:

This report was written to evaluate the state of the science and advances in gas dosimetry that have occurred since the publication of the 1994 RfC Methods. In addition, the state of the science considering children’s inhalation dosimetry is also addressed. It was also written in response to concerns and questions about the methods that NCEA has received from external peer reviewers of IRIS documents, and other client program offices as well as regional and state agencies.

Description:

This status report provides a review of advances in the state of the science for interspecies inhalation gas dosimetry related to extrathoracic (ET) or upper respiratory tract (URT), tracheobronchial (TB), pulmonary (PU), and extrarespiratory (systemic, SYS) effects.
