Description:
CERF 2011’s theme reflects a growing realization that human societies are an integral component of ecosystems and the dynamics of these societies and ecosystems are interactive - their futures are interdependent. The USEPA Gulf Ecology Division’s (USEPA-GED) mission is to conduct ecological effects research to assess sustainability of estuarine and coastal systems, determine cause(s) of affected and declining systems, predict future risks to population and ecosystems, and support development of criteria to protect coastal systems of the Gulf of Mexico and the southeastern United States. Now more than ever, USEPA is focusing on a number of important mission areas that match well with the theme for this year’s CERF conference. This poster: (1) describes some of EPA’s latest priority mission areas on healthy and sustainable communities, and safe and sustainable water resources (among many others); and (2) outlines the contributions that USEPA-GED is making to CERF 2011.
