In 2012 the Office of Water in collaboration with states and tribal nations will conduct the second National Lake Assessment.

Description:

In 2012 the Office of Water in collaboration with states and tribal nations will conduct the second National Lake Assessment. The purpose of this presentation is to present potential survey design approaches for this national assessment. Currently discussions are underway to determine whether the target population of lakes should remain the same as for NLA 2007. One potential consideration is the inclusion of 1-4 hectare lakes. The survey design for NLA 2007 was approached primarily from a national and regional perspective followed by the selection of additional lakes that would be sufficient for a state to implement a state assessment. For NLA 2012 survey design consideration is being given to first designing individual state survey designs followed by a national design that would select subsets of sites from the state designs. The national design would also include provision to revisit approximately 450 lakes sampled in NLA 2007.
