The Water Environment Research Foundation funded a collaborative effort designed to better understand the factors affecting regrowth, odors and the sudden increase of bacterial indicators in heat treated biosolids. As part of this effort the Principal Investigators developed a workshop to discuss related issues which will be held in New Orleans, LA on Saturday, October 2, 2010. This brief presentation describes the relationship between pathogenic microorganisms and indicator bacteria in treated municipal sludge. Some of the factors which influence survival of indicator bacteria and pathogens are also addressed.
