IAQ Scientific Findings Resource Bank
Impact/Purpose:
To develop and disseminate information summarizing the state of scientific knowledge about the relationships between people’s health and productivity and IAQ. Peer-reviewed journal articles will be published based on this activity, and a web site will include the downloadable journal articles at: (www.iaqscience.lbl.gov)
Description:
This effort is being conducted under an interagency agreement between the US EPA and the US Department of Energy- the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Under this project, LBNL will conduct literature reviews and analyses which quantify the health and productivity benefits associated with indoor air quality (IAQ) practices. Information will be developed and maintained on a Scientific Findings Resource Bank (SFRB) web site at LBNL as a resource for public health professionals, building professionals, and others who seek scientific information about the effects of IAQ on people's health or work performance. Recent efforts include completing a review of published scientific literature about the health benefits of particle filtration, A paper entitled Health Benefits of Particle Filtration was developed and published on the Indoor Air Journal's web site in March 2013. A new section on residential air cleaning and health was developed on the SFRB web site, based on this journal article and other emerging literature. Other technical content on the SFRB web site will also be updated to reflect recently-published and emerging findings.
