Description:
The paper discusses the utility of conducting bench-scale testing on selected bioretention media and media amendments to validate hydrologic properties before installing media and amendments in larger pilot- or full-scale rain garden installations. The bench-scale study concluded that initial media and amendment selections did not provide adequate drainage. Consequently the pilot-scale rain gardens were constructed using a different media and carbon amendment. The design of the pilot-scale experiment was also described.
