Description:

This slide presentation summarizes key elements of the EOA, Office of Research and Development’s (ORD) Aging Water Infrastructure (AWI)) Research program. An overview of the national problems posed by aging water infrastructure is followed by a brief description of EPA’s overall response, and then a more detailed description of EPA-ORD’s AWI program. The AWI research program focuses on three primary topic areas -condition assessment, rehabilitation, and advanced concepts. Progress to date includes completion of technology forums, identification of research needs, preparation of state of technology reports and a report comparing selected green and green/gray infrastructure combinations; preparation for condition assessment, rehabilitation, and green infrastructure technology demonstrations; and development of decision support tools for sanitary sewer overflow reduction and BMP placement. Planned research is also briefly discussed.
