Microwave-assisted synthesis of organics and nanomaterials

Citation:

VARMA, R. S. Microwave-assisted synthesis of organics and nanomaterials. Presented at 237th American Chemical Society National Meeting, Salt Lake City, UT, March 22 - 26, 2009.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public

Description:

Microwave-assisted chemistry techniques and greener reaction media are dramatically reducing chemical waste and reaction times in several organic transformations and material synthesis. This presentation summarizes author’s own experience in developing MW-assisted chemical processes, which involve various benign alternatives, such as the use of supported reagents, and greener reaction medium in aqueous or solvent-free conditions. The synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, coupling reactions, and eco-friendly generation of nanomaterials and their nanocomposite forms with various renewable polymers will be described.
