Description:

Heterocyclic compounds hold a special place in drug discovery and variety of techniques such as combinatorial synthesis, parallel synthesis, and automated library production to increase the output of these entities has been developed. Although most of these techniques are rapid and productive, they generate significant quantities of chemical waste thus prompting to develop newer methods with reduced environmental impact. Microwave (MW) heating seems to be promising and enabling green alternatives to tackle this issue. We have developed one-pot synthesis of ring-fused aminals using MW which involves the reaction of neat aminobenzaldehydes with cyclic amines, under solvent-free conditions. Also, no catalyst is used and reaction proceeds within 20-30 min with good to excellent yields thus providing expedient access to these bio-active heterocycles.
