Results of the Lake Michigan Mass Balance Project: Atrazine Modeling Report
Citation:
RYGWELSKI, K. R. Results of the Lake Michigan Mass Balance Project: Atrazine Modeling Report. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/R-08/111, 2008.
Impact/Purpose:
This report covers an overview of chemical properties, measurements in air and water, model construct and assumptions, and results of mathematical mass balance modeling of the herbicide atrazine in the Lake Michigan basin.
Description:
This report covers an overview of chemical properties, measurements in air and water, model construct and assumptions, and results of mathematical mass balance modeling of the herbicide atrazine in the Lake Michigan basin. Within the context of the mass balance, an overview of atrazine sources to the lake, transport within the lake, cycling between the air and water phases, and persistence in the system is presented. Model forecasts were conducted to determine alternative futures based on different management actions or engineering sensitivity tests.
