Description:
Newer green chemistry approach to accomplish chemical synthesis in water is summarized. Recent global developments pertaining to C-C bond forming reactions using metallic reagents and direct use of the renewable materials such as carbohydrates without derivatization are described with some examples from author’s own laboratory. Utility of ultrasound- and microwave-assisted reactions in aqueous reaction media is highlighted that enables expeditious N-alkylation reactions of amines and hydrazines to afford a series of heterocyclic ring systems such as N-azacycloalkanes, 4,5-dihydropyrazoles and pyrazolidines etc
