APPLICATION OF SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA TO STELLA, MISSOURI-ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING-PRELIMINARY SITE INFORMATION AND ELEMENTS OF THE MASTER PLAN

Citation:

HANSEN, V. E. APPLICATION OF SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA TO STELLA, MISSOURI-ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING-PRELIMINARY SITE INFORMATION AND ELEMENTS OF THE MASTER PLAN. Presented at Brownfields 2006 Conference, Boston, MA, November 12 - 17, 2006.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

Natural systems provide essential goods and services that make human life possible. Because development of the built environment will cumulatively consume natural capital, it is essential that the conditions that maintain natural systems must become the constraints and performance requirements that guide socio-physical development if human life is to be sustained. This presentation places these environmental criteria in the context of Stella, Missouri so that workshop participants can provide planning input and planning critique related to a real life application. Input from participants will be used to refine a master plan for the community while learning how to apply environmental criteria to achieve sustainable natural systems and sustainable built environments.
