G.A. Norris et al., "Composition and Sources of PM in Phoenix AZ", J. Air Waste Manage. Assoc. (in journal review) - the article presents species mass balance and spatial distribution, and PCA and CMB receptor model analyses, of NERL Phoenix Research Platform data..
T.F. Mar, G.A. Norris et al., "Associations between Air Pollution and Mortality in Phoenix, 1995-1997," Environ. Health Perspectives, Volume 108, Number 4, April 2000, pp 347 - 353. - the article shows significant association of cardiovascular mortality with PM-2.5 and PM-10 measured daily over 3 yrs. at the NERL Phoenix Research Platform, and also with CO, NO2, and SO2, and elemental carbon (EC).
R.D. Willis, "Workshop on UNMIX and PMF as applied to PM-2.5". U.S. EPA Report No. EPA/600/A-00/048 (June 2000) - the report is the proceedings of a workshop to evaluate the performance of two advanced receptor models.
FY00 APM 444 (Key): "Produce improved receptor models (CMB8 and UNMIX) for measurement of source category emissions impacts on air quality"; due 09/00. NERL clearance of software modules and user's manuals: 11/15/00.
Miscellaneous - Two commercial instruments for performing OC/EC measurements have been installed. XRF and IC analyses of samples from the Fresno and RTP personal exposure studies are in progress. Radiocarbon analysis of the PM-2.5 samples collected during the "SCOS97" and "Nashville99" field studies have begun.

Relevance
:This task supports GPRA Goal 1 (Clean Air) through the related APG's and APM's listed below. The source apportionment modeling activities under this task are intended to provide quantitative estimates of the contributions that source emissions make to measured concentrations of air pollutants in ambient or human exposure-related microenvironments. Such estimates constitute the fundamental knowledge that is required in order to know which sources to control to meet NAAQS or reduce human exposures. The laboratory analytical activities under this task not only support source apportionment modeling, but also provide an analytical service to NERL's human exposure program, in furnishing a basic level of PM chemical characterization of field samples.
