Impact/Purpose:

to better understand and use genomics data

Description:

Four year ago, the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) paper Potential Implications of Genomics for Regulatory and Risk Assessment Applications at EPA identified four areas of oversight likely to be influenced by genomics data. These were the prioritization of contaminants and contaminated sites, environmental monitoring, reporting provisions and risk assessment. The paper also identified a critical need for analysis and acceptance criteria for genomics information in scientific and regulatory applications.
