Social Aspects of Brownfield Redevelopment in Cities (A Workshop of the U.S.-German Bilateral Working Group), Leipzig, Saxony, GERMANY, June 17 - 18, 2004. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/C-05/009 (NTIS PB2006500067), 2005.
Description:
The objective of the workshop was to identify constraints, appropriate strategies and instruments to integrate social issues in urban brownfield revitalization projects oriented toward urban renewal, citizen participation and empowerment. Theoretical approaches to planning and citizen participation were presented, using examples from projects completed in both the US and Germany resulting in a transfer of scientific knowledge and exchange of experience among engineers, urban planners, municipal politicians and public administrators. The information exchange is intended to generate new ideas which the participants can apply to their own work.
