Impact/Purpose:

To characterize the receptor pathways involved in pattern-evoked potential generation in rats

Description:

This manuscript characterizes the receptor pathways involved in pattern-evoked potential generation in rats

" NMDA and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors appear to be involved in the generation of the steady-state pattern evoked response in vivo.

" The pattern evoked visual potential is sensitive to alteration by volatile organic compounds on the Hazardous Air Pollutants list. This data in this paper furthers our understanding of the basic neurobiology underlying this response and will facilitate examination of the mechanisms underlying effects of volatile organic compounds on this measure. These results will strengthen extrapolations across species, route and dose level by providing mechanistic data and allow for the development of in vitro tests for screening volatile organic solvents for neurotoxic effects.
