Description:

Abstract for poster presenation. One important measure of success for a monitoring program is its adaptability to changing assessment objectives. Since 2000, US coastal states and federal agencies, in partnership with EPA's National Coastal Assessment (NCA), have been monitoring their coastal waters using a probabilistic survey design and comparable data collection methods. While NCA's primary focus was national, all NCA participants were included during survey design development affording them some latitude to address areas of particular interest. With the publication of EPA's National Coastal Condition Report II, we have been able to successfully show the applicability of such a survey effort for large-scale, coastal resource assessments. Here, we present these same data at differing scales to demonstrate the scalability and versatility of NCA's monitoring approach.
