Impact/Purpose:

provide information

Description:

The lignin degrading system of the white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium is able to degrade a wide variety of structurally diverse organopollutants to carbon dioxide. Current research is focused on ways to increase or optimize rates of biodegradation in order to apply this technology in practical waste treatment systems using 14C-DDT as a model organopollutant.
