Description:

Risk communication is the process of informing people about hazards. Like all communication, communicating risk is a two-way exchange in which you inform the target community about possible hazards, but also gather information about those affected by the risk. The purpose of risk communication is to help residents of a community understand risk assessment and risk management, form scientifically valid perceptions of the likely hazards, and participate in making decisions about how the risk should be managed. Risk communication tools are developed to communicate to the public decisions about how the risk should be managed. Risk communication tools are developed to communicate to the public the magnitude of the risks involved in a particular siatuation, and lay the foundation for the trust that needs to be established between the community and the agency dealing with the risks involved. This digest shows how risk communication tools are developed and used to help manage a community risk. The tools are the key components of effective risk communication.
