Description:
Combined sewage samples obtained from a wastewater treatment facility were disinfected by the Fenton's Reagent of several different compositions. The pre-settled samples contained both suspended solids (SS) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) at concentrations of 28 and 290 mg/L, respectively. Under all reaction conditions studied, complete inactivation of the Escherichia coli organism was achieved within one minute of the Fenton's Reagent addition. All disinfection tests were carried out at a pH between 5.90 - 6.0 and a temperature of 250°C. All disinfected samples contained residual oxidants.
