INTRODUCING THE FIRST EVER PEC WEBSITE

Citation:

ACQUISTO, B. INTRODUCING THE FIRST EVER PEC WEBSITE. Presented at Seventh Annual National Biosolids Conference/Workshop, Potomac, MD, October 10 - 13, 2005.

Description:

Since it's creation in 1985, the Pathogen Equivalency Committee (PEC) has been reviewing novel sludge disinfection technologies and their ability to protect human health and the environment. The PEC is charged to make recommendations on whether these novel technologies provide equivalent protection to those technologies already included in the appropriate regulations. Until now the committee has had to rely on word of mouth and personal communication to let prospective applicants and the public know about the PEC and the equivalency recommendation process. Applications have been increasing of late and the need for a more efficient way of disseminating this information has become apparent. The PEC website was created to fill this need. This presentation provides an overview of the new website (2nd draft) along with some new protocols which formatlize the equivalency recommendation process. Issues such as the requirement of a quality assurance project plan, new application guidelines, and the PEC's use of a more formal checklist review of new applications are presented.
