Description:
When I first became involved in particulate control research, there were always a few guys with gray hair,.white beards, and big cigars nodding and mumbling, "We knew that 20 years ago." Now, 30 years later, the only things that have changed are the cigars are gone, and I'm one of the guys with gray hair and a white beard. This is not an exhaustive review of particulate control technology research, rather it is a discussion of a few of the major research topics that I have been involved in at EPA. Most of the discussion is devoted to research on electrostatic precipitators (ESPs). Information on the wet scrubber and fabric filter research programs was dropped due to space limitations. EPA and others conducted research on related topics not discussed here.
