Description:

o This chapter summarizes current knowledge of the toxicology of organotin compounds in a format suitable for an encyclopedia. Organotins include a wide variety of molecules containing tin bound covalently to one to four organic moieties. Some of these highly versatile compounds find uses in manufacture of plastics as stabilizers and catalysts; others are used as agricultural and marine pesticides. Present concerns about exposure to organotins arises from their contamination of drinking water and their ecological effects on non-mammalian species.
