ITE CHARACTERIZATION TO SUPPORT CONCEPTUAL MODEL DEVELOPMENT FOR SUBSURFACE RADIONUCLIDE TRANSPORT

Citation:

FORD, R. ITE CHARACTERIZATION TO SUPPORT CONCEPTUAL MODEL DEVELOPMENT FOR SUBSURFACE RADIONUCLIDE TRANSPORT. Presented at 233rd American Chemical Society National Meeting, chicago, IL, March 25 - 29, 2007.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

Remediation of radionuclide contaminants in ground water often begins with the development of conceptual and analytical models that guide our understanding of the processes controlling radionuclide transport. The reliability of these models is often predicated on the collection of site-specific data that accurately reflect the processes controlling contaminant partitioning along transport pathways. This presentation will highlight potential pitfalls that should be avoided during implementation of site characterization along with an overview of current technical needs for tools to characterize the mechanisms controlling contaminant solid-phase partitioning in space and time.
